Top Cars That Are Perfect for a Tune-Up - Quick Bitz

Stock cars are great for driving from point A to point B. But there’s one problem. They are boring.

If you want a car that drives fast and doesn’t cost a fortune either, tuning up your daily is the best way to indulge in some driving pleasure.

However, not all naturally aspirated engines are primed for an aftermarket tune-up. If you must, you can buy a used car and build on it.

We recommend the following models if you are considering buying a used car for a tune-up. Feel lucky if you already have one.

#1 Honda Civic:

The Honda Civic is a tuners’ favourite for so many reasons. Its stock motor is built to last and can take any amount of abuse to give you the desired driving adrenaline. Many successful tuners have gained up to 800 bhp on a modified Civic, which tells you that achieving even half that power is more than what you can handle. If you are looking for a bit more potential, go for a Honda Acura.

#2 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution:

Another Jap import on the list, Lancer Evolution is a head-turner at drag strips and car meets. No wonder it had been a car of choice for Hollywood movies, such as Fast and Furious, Need for Speed, etc. Its 2.0L stock motor can be beefed up to pump out 500 horses. All you need is the right turbo and fuel pressure regulators, with maybe a few squirts of nitrous oxide.

#3 Ford Mustang:

Built to race, Ford Mustang is a heartthrob -- love at first sight. And what’s under the hood? A whole lot of potential. It comes with a peppy engine and old-school driving dynamics, making it a true tuners’ car. However, you need to be a bit careful when tinkering with its stock motor. You may need to take it for dyno tuning in Melbourne one too many times to get everything in sync.

# 4 Toyota Supra:

The legend with a massive fan following across the globe, Supra offers virtually infinite potential for tune-ups. Mind you, it’s not that easy to find a Supra in the used car market. And the latest model is something that you would want to pass up, as it’s reportedly manufactured by BMW, which also puts an exorbitant sticker price on it.

#5 Nissan Skyline GTR:

The car that made Paul Walker a legend. We all remember that Fast & Furious’ iconic scene, don’t we? Nissan Skyline GT-R’s looks can be deceptive. It can easily pass off as a family car. But in good hands, this low-key car can be transformed into an untamed monster. Since it was in production for more than 12 years, finding one in the used market won’t be an issue.

Other cars that are suitable for tune-ups are Mazda RX-7, Nissan 300 ZX, Subaru WRX, Chevy Corvette, and Volkswagen R32.

Which one of these pulled at your heartstrings?
