WATERMAN RACING 'X-LARGE' FUEL PUMP CABLE INSTALLATION WARNING

Installation Warning

The adjustable end (with flanged hex) of cable should always go to the fuel pump end in the race car.

When installing the X-Large fuel pump cable in the race car, please make sure you attach the cable to the chassis or solid components on the chassis every 5".

These cables can spool up, especially when starting the engine. If the cable isn't securely attached to the chassis, it can come disengaged from the hex drive end.

Do not use plastic zip/cable ties. Stainless steel zip ties will work fine. The best clamps are the rubber-lined 3/4" Adel clamps. You can install the clamps with pop rivets, self-tapping screws, or bolts.

You must keep both ends of the first 4"-5" of cable straight and level coming out of the fuel pump, oil pump, or off the belt-drive bracket. If you can't tie the cable up every 7 or 5", you can split an aluminum tubing in half and install it around the cable casing, then hose-clamp it tight. Then secure tubing to a solid item on the car chassis or motor.

If the cable is longer than 14', we would recommend that you attach it to the chassis every 4".

Adjusting Cable

After the first event, you should re-adjust the cable core in the cable case.

Remove adjustable cable end off of pump chassis mount bracket. Push in on the head of the hex. There should be about 1/8" of play before the hex flange stops against the case end. If the hex flange is bottomed out against the case end, you will need to adjust the case in to get to the 1/8" of end play.

Break the jam nut loose with 2-7/8" wrenches. Back the jam nut off about 1/8" and turn the adjustable end to get the 1/8" of end play. Push the head of the hex in again and release until you let the 1/8" end play. Tighten jam nut. Put grease on the ex end and install it back into the chassis mount bracket.

Make sure both large aluminum nuts are tight on both ends of the cable.

Servicing Cable

After three or four events, remove the core out of the cable case from the back adjustable end. Wipe the core off as you pull it out. Clean the core and inspect for wear or fraying at the hex ends.

If it looks good, re-install the core back into the case using a high temperature grease.

Use a 1" oam paint brush and apply the grease on the core as you insert it into the case.

Install the front cable hex into the female drive and tightening the front large nut. Check for the 1/8" end play and adjust as needed. Grease the. hex ends before inserting into chassis mount bracket.

WATERMAN RACING 'MEDIUM' FUEL PUMP CABLE INSTALLATION WARNING

Installation Warning

The adjustable end (with flanged hex) of cable should always go to the fuel pump end in the race car.

When installing the medium fuel pump cable in the race car, please make sure you attach the cable to the chassis or solid components on the chassis every 8".

These cables can spool up, especially when starting the engine. If the cable isn't securely attached to the chassis, it can come disengaged from the hex drive end.

Do not use plastic zip/cable ties. Stainless steel zip ties will work fine. The best clamps are the rubber-lined 5/8" Adel clamps. You can install the clamps with pop rivets, self-tapping screws, or bolts.
